A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum… July 5, 2006

If yu look at the right side of the site you will notice a new page. “The End Forums” It is exactly what it says. A message board forum for the website. I am still working all the kinks out, but it seems to running very smoothly. Also, it has quiet a bit of AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript and XML) which is always cool.

Here is the problem. I’m sure most of you know what vBulletin is. it’s a very well put together message board system and I was wondering if you like this or vBulletin more. vBulletin is fully customizable, but it’s not cheap. I could probably get it cheap, but that’s not that point. I was wondering what you would rather have. A message board with a myriad of features or a nice, clean, simple message board.

Ken Lay; Layed to Rest July 5, 2006

Ken Lay, 63,  the former CEO of Enron, whose company’s executives cost millions of Americans their live savings, is dead.
He died while vacationing. It’s truely ironic how this man commits a crime and he gets to go on vacation. I guess karma caught up with him and killed him off.

Salvation! … In these under-appreciated movies. June 13, 2006

Dark City- I just caught this movie over the weekend, and it was amazing. The concept is, blatantly, dark, and the message not only re-conveys but validates many romantic possibilities in this world.

  • Plot: An amnesiac accused of multiple murders seeks a brilliant doctor (his only lead to his memories) while being hunted by a detective and mysterious beings. The plot runs deeper than this, but it would be spoiling to mention more.
  • Faces: Keifer Sutherland

Runaway Jury- A truly original take on blackmail and manipulation. This is another things-are-not-always-as-they-seem movies; while cliched, it is very good.

  • Plot: After manipulating his way into a jury on a large case, a man and his partner prove their ability to control the jury and use this to ransom the outcome.
  • Faces: John Cusack

Mafia!- Possibly the greatest slapstick comedy of all-time, this delivers on every subtle "What if" scenario ever questioned in real life and even famous movie quotes and scenes.

  • Plot: The heir to an organized crime "family" takes over his father's business, runs casinos in Las Vegas, and faces betrayals from all sides.
  • Faces: Jay Mohr

And You Thought We Were Moving Next Gen… Pfft! June 13, 2006

This simply must have Bill Gates skipping in the street. Sony’s PlayStation 2, you know the system introduced almost six years ago outsold the XBox 360 by 11,000 units for a total of 231,000 sold last month. It is projected that it will continue to be the top seller until the PlayStation 3 makes its long awaited and expensive debut later this year. Then the true console war can begin. [via]

Here is something incredably funny about this. You may think that we are already head deep in the next-gen console wars, and yet here we are with the PS2 outselling the “over-hyped” Xbox 360. As much as I don’t want to admit t, I know the PS3 is doomed, but at least Sony isn’t completely boned.

Stuck In the Middle June 8, 2006

Lately I've been talking a lot to a couple of my male friends, as well as hanging out with them.  I've also been talking to my other friends.  Anyway, I've been thinking about this.  My two males friends have, over the last two days, both found people to… let's just say… "cuddle" with.  I myself, have not found someone to cuddle with, or at least they don't want to cuddle back.

Here's the problem.  There is a person, in one of the two sets of "couples" that I have a crush on.  It's horrible.  Worst of all, it's not just any random person.  It just so happens to be one of my (at least I think, maybe) best friends.  See the problem?  It's a bit of a pickle for me.  I want them to be happy, but I don't…. I don't know what to do.  By nature, and by force, I've been a fairly shy person.  I tend to not like open affection, escpecially from other people.  This is mostly because I haven't had the chance to express myself in love anyway.

There is some more problem with my interest in this person.  One, I'm not the most attractive person you will meet.  Oh well.  Second, I don't want to tell you, because that would… reveal too much.   That is sort of private and onlythe two guys know why.

Oh boy.  I'm in a bit of a pickle, indeed.  Any thoughts on love for me, or anyone else?

USA Network, which reaches about 90 million cable subscribers in the U.S., announced in April that it will broadcast the entire season of tournaments produced by Major League Gaming (MLG), the four-year-old professional video game league.

Finally someone who understands us! I love you USA/NBS/Parent Company. :D

Is Being Overweight All In the Brain? June 6, 2006

By using positron emission tomography (PET) to study the brain's neuroreceptors in relation to obesity, scientists may be getting closer to determining important information about the neurobiological mechanisms involved.

Finally a reason for me to explain why I'm fat. There is one problem though. This is complete bullshit. How do I know this? I'm fat. I know fat people. We eat to eat, so don't try to say otherwise.

Welcome back. If you actually took the time to read that whole list as I did, you may soon realize that about 95% of the so-called "features" are actually just fixes to problems they have been having. There are only about 5-7 true new features to this update.

Now, I'm not knocking Microsoft for fixing their hardware, but I think it's a bit too much propaganda to be toting this as having "125 New Features."

What do you think? Leave me a comment if you want. You don't need to register either. Oh, and I'm thinking about adding a new writer too keep me honest. That way we can have at least twice as many updates, bringing us to about twice a month. :D If you have even the slightest fancy for writing, please, drop me a line and I can talk to you about it. Either leave a comment or e-mail me at theendblog@gmail.com.

When it comes down to it, E3 is the end-of-and-be-all of the video game industry. So, E3 came AND will be able to have large dramatic effects on the console wars.

None of the three contenders are pulling any punches and quite frankly it is a good thing to hear. You know what happens when competition occurs? LOWER PRICES! Yes, I don't expect the prices to lower, but I think that they won't go up by much at all. I mean, if you put in inflation these games such be a lot more expensive than they are right now, so this can be good. Of course, if one console takes off and leaves the rest in the dust… fuck!
